Senior Research Operations Manager, Head of Beiwe Research Platform

- Owns product strategy and full-lifecycle delivery for Beiwe, a smartphone-based passive-sensing platform (iOS/Android/backend) supporting 10-20 active studies at any time (118 run total) and roughly 3,000 active participants per year (peak 7,000), navigating hardware, mobile, and backend constraints as one coherent product
- Directed the build of "HeartBeat," a device check-in and re-engagement feature that lifted platform-wide data-collection completion by 7-8 percentage points (p<0.001), contributing to a tenure-long rise of +10.3 percentage points since arrival and setting the platform's all-time completeness record (94.47%)
- Partners with data scientists and engineers on production signal-processing systems, including a machine-learning model (Sparse Online Gaussian Process GPS imputation) and the Forest analysis library's circadian-rhythm metrics, making tradeoff calls on processing time vs. measurement accuracy that ship responsibly into a live system
- Owns full budget, vendor, and contract lifecycle for the Beiwe Service Center: pricing models, data-use-agreement and MOU negotiation, and revenue projections across roughly 50 personally-managed studies (70-80 distinct institutions contracted); reports performance monthly at Center finance meetings and annually to Harvard's Research Program Advisory Committee
- Directs data governance across wellness and regulated-use contexts: IRB consultation, data-sharing agreements, and privacy oversight, including a pharma-sponsored engagement with Boehringer-Ingelheim that produced a secondary clinical-trial endpoint
- Direct people manager for the platform's engineer and a team of 4 Research Assistants (5 direct reports): full ownership of priorities, performance reviews, and HR conversations; active participant in architecture and technical tradeoff decisions
